Espoo, Finland — 3.10.2024 — Emberion, a leading innovator in quantum dot based shortwave infrared sensing technology, is excited to announce the fastest quantum dot-based Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) camera on the market. Emberion brought to the market the fastest quantum dot (QD) based camera running 400 fps full frame already last year and has now demonstrated speed of 1400 fps with region-of-interest (ROI) implementations.
This groundbreaking performance achieves an unprecedented frame rate of 1400 frames per second (fps), setting a new industry benchmark for high-speed SWIR imaging and promising to transform a variety of applications across multiple sectors. It also proves quantum dot based products are a viable option for very high speed applications requiring frame rates that have so far been achievable only with alternative technology such as InGaAs, but with significantly higher cost compared to what QD’s can offer.
Key Features of the Quantum Dot-Based SWIR Camera:
- Unmatched Speed: 1400 fps with QVGA ROI implementation, allowing real-time capture of dynamic processes that require high-speed precision.
- Quantum Dot Technology: Enhances sensitivity across wide SWIR spectrum, including extended SWIR range, delivering superior image quality and performance in challenging conditions at a much more affordable price. The ROI implementation has also showcased significantly improved sensitivity despite the record high speed.
The camera’s ability to capture fast-moving scenes at such high frame rates will enable breakthroughs in fields like hyper- and multispectral imaging, 3D mapping, and high-speed quality control. The high speed is specifically relevant for high volume applications such as food quality control & sorting as well as textile and plastic recycling. Typical examples for these applications are fast moving conveyer belts inspecting products such as fish fillets or sorting free falling objects such as nuts and coffee beans. Also, various drone based hyperspectral applications require high speed from the camera to provide the detailed spectral information of the areas they inspect. Drones with hyperspectral capability are deployed e.g. for agriculture inspection or battlefield spectral fingerprinting.
This achievement is also a critical step in demonstrating Emberion’s QD stack’s capabilities to reach record high speeds as Emberion is bringing to market the novel sensor designed specifically for pushbroom hyperspectral imaging systems integration. This sensor will reach a speed of 1000 fps with full frame and with spectral line ROI implementation up to 3000 fps.
