Emberion is taking next steps to widen the selection of product variants to meet the customer demand especially in defense sector. Emberion is respectively introducing a Serial Digital Interface (SDI) option to its family of products during spring 2026. The SDI interface is meeting the strong demand from defense and surveillance domain, while the current GigE interface is directed towards industrial machine vision customers. Some benefits of SDI interface are low latency, robustness and interoperability with existing defense systems e.g. in UAV’s, CCTV and ATV’s.
SDI camera highlights
Emberion’s new SDI cameras will be size, weight and power (SWaP) optimized versions of current available products equipped with GigE interface. They will reach frame rates up to 60 fps and have various SDI interfaces supported (incl. HD-SDI & 3G-SDI).
The SDI product will be offered both as a full camera (“Compact”) as well as a fully functional core aimed at integration. These cameras will include the various spectral variants of the Emberion sensors. The products available today are Emberion VS17 (400-1700 nm) optimized for 1550 nm spectral peak and Emberion VS20 reaching over 2000 nm. The camera has a number of unique features with integrate-while-read (IWR) modes for laser pulse detection and HDR>120 dB non saturating performance for high performance imaging.

Launch at SPIE Defense & Security
The product is planned to start shipping during 1st half of 2026 and first live demo is planned for SPIE Defense & Security event in Maryland, U.S. in April 2026 (Booth 826).
In the meantime meet the Emberion team at SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco end of January to discuss the specifications of the SDI products in greater detail. Welcome to Emberion booth 4229 at Photonics Finland Pavilion to hear more what Emberion’s current & future SWIR products can offer to your imaging and detection solutions.
